We are delighted to announce the Multi-million pound mental health centre for young people, ‘Junction 17’ has been awarded ‘Design Project of the Year’ at the first Design in Mental Health Network (DIMHN) National Awards held in Birmingham.
The awards event was part of the annual DIMHN Conference which showcases outstanding mental health design from around the world whilst bringing together those involved in mental health environments to collaborate and improve outcomes.
Throughout the building project, our team worked with a ‘development group’ made up of young people, art and occupational therapists, psychiatrists and service providers to work towards creating a young people-friendly, accessible centre.
The two-storey centre has 20 en-suite bedrooms including an Acute provision, a bespoke extra care suite, extensive therapy and activity areas, open plan living spaces, outside healing spaces including courtyards and gardens as well as a college with a sports and recreational hall and bespoke learning environments for inpatients to attend.

We beat off a very competitive field with strong Mental Health Projects shortlisted from both home and abroad. We were delighted to be part of a fantastic project and one which has left a real legacy for the Service and its users. It was great that Jane Arands from J17 was able to attend the Awards dinner and we were thrilled to accept the award on behalf of the team.
