Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Theatre Refurbishment
What We Did
The project involved upgrading The Royal Hallamshire Hospitals 40-year-old theatres into new ‘cutting edge’ facilities.
It comprised the enabling & remodelling of 13 theatres & associated support spaces on both the 17th floor and basement of this 19 storey hospital tower block. The scheme entailed some complex logistical challenges to move plant into the building, taking account of the weight restrictions on roads around the hospital.
Phase 1 involved the remodelling of 4 new ultra clean theatres on the existing “Q Floor” (17th floor) of the tower block, as an enabling scheme for the “A Floor” reconfiguration of 9 theatres.
Phase 2 comprised remodelling of the existing theatre block, providing 9 new theatres within the existing estate, over multiple phases, while keeping the existing theatres live and operational at all times.
As part of the works GDA modelled and co-ordinated the plant floor above R Floor and below P Floor to ensure design drainage locations.
