What We Did

The new build that is now 'Rotherham Emergency Care Centre' extended the hospital’s existing A&E facility by fully integrating an Urgent Care and Walk-In facility into one department, on the Rotherham District General Hospital Site. The amalgamation of facilities provides patients with a single point of contact for Emergency and Urgent Care Services, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  It provides a modern facility with greater efficiencies and capacity, designed to deliver a service consistent with current and future clinical requirements, whilst at the same time improving the patient experience through better care, privacy and dignity.

Alongside the new build a series of complex internal reorganisation and refurbishments were carried out to both the Majors and Fractures departments. Whilst at upper level, administrative spaces have been created, including seminar and conference rooms for use in educating hospital staff, sustaining clinical excellence.

The scheme was delivered by phased construction in a live hospital environment, which enabled the Trust to continue delivering its emergency services and maintain high standards of clinical care.

Rotherham’s new Emergency Care Centre has received the highest award, The Gold Award, from Secured by Design (SBD).  This is the national Police Crime Prevention initiative, for incorporating crime prevention techniques into The Centre's layout, landscaping and physical security.  The Emergency Care Centre is the first of its kind to achieve SBD accreditation in South Yorkshire.

Opened by the Duke of Kent, this was a major development for the Trust in their provision of Urgent Care and Out of Hours Services and we were delighted to be involved in assisting them in achieving their goals of serving the community of Rotherham in an excellent high quality environment.
