What We Did

The Recovery Academy provides a range of free educational courses and resources for people with mental health and substance misuse problems, their families and carers, as well as health care professionals. The facilities include 100 person lecture theatre, four number 45-50 person seminar rooms, three break out rooms, library, café and support areas.

"The Curve” commissioned by Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust“ is part of the on going Master Plan for the site.  Situated in Prestwich, the educational hub provides a much improved ‘first impression’ to the hospital site. It houses a purpose-built education and training facility for staff together with a vibrant and stimulating centre-point for the Trust’s development activities. The new facility also accommodates the existing education and training functions and acts as a central ‘hub’ for the entire Recovery Academy, providing a base and excellent resources to support the delivery of recovery and education programmes. The facility also enables the re-location of the Trust Headquarters and provides new conferencing facilities that the Trust can hire out to other businesses and community groups. 

On display throughout the building are contemporary art pieces, created by the award winning artist Gerry Halpin MBE in conjunction with service users from across the site.  Together, the atmosphere and backdrop created helps service users to fulfil their hopes and aspirations.  It provides the perfect environment to promote recovery, health & wellbeing and acts as a flagship for the Trust.   The design supports the on-going transformation of the Trust’s mental health and substance misuse services from ‘services which focus on reducing people’s symptoms to those which focus on rebuilding lives’.
