Bolton One, Community Leisure Facility

What We Did

Bolton One is a Community Leisure Facility in the heart of Bolton Town Centre. Gilling Dod Interior Design worked closely with the client to create an interactive and fun environment for people to work out.

The space needed to be designed efficiently within the restrictions of an awkward layout - the existing arrangement provided a dark, claustrophobic corridor on entry into a disorganised and confusing design with oversized changing areas.

The existing gymnasium has been totally refurbished and revitalised to reflect a modern way of exercising and provide a more flexible community facility, as well as utilising the current space much more efficiently. The new layout creates a welcoming space into the heart of the gym, with zoning areas for different activities, reflecting the demographics of the area and providing sensitivity to adjoining neighbours by reducing noise transfer to lower levels. Facilities include; a free weights room, sauna & steam room and state of the art changing facilities. Outside the gym, an inviting view extends to the new reception & welcome area.

Gilling Dod provided a full space planning service, working within tight budget requirements. 3D visuals and presentation materials ensured the client was involved in the design from start to finish. We worked closely with the contractors, providing full working drawings and guidance, ensuring the small design details were caught and a high standard of output was produced by all.
