Ashton Health Centre
What We Did
The scheme is a show case of the Healthier Wigan initiative that looks to improve the health and wellbeing of local residents and supports the regeneration of Ashton in Makerfield. The two storey 1,100 square metre building comprises of two GP Practices (Medicentre and Bryne Street Practices) on the first floor, with the ground floor used for community health services. This includes the integrated health and social care teams, together with a Pharmacy. The remainder of the ground floor area is dedicated to the Community and has been design flexibly so it can be used out of hours by local community groups for an array of different activities and meetings. Solar Panels were installed to enhance the building's sustainability credentials, as well as carparking and landscaping. An additional feature included an ambulance standby point which provides a location where crews can rest between calls. |
Part of this commission was also to provide school recreation facilities in the form of a new high quality Multi Use Games Area (MUGA), offset against the new car park for the Health Centre on the school’s playing field.
