Red Bank Community Home, Secure Educational Unit.

Gilling Dod Architects are currently developing a new Secure Education unit for Red Bank Community Home to cater for young offenders of 12 to 16 years of age, which will provide a substitute teaching base for the existing education accommodation built in the mid – 1960’s. The value of the scheme is £3.4 Million.

The new unit will cater for activities including:-

Tuition of English, Mathematics and Sciences.
Arts and Crafts including pottery.
Vocational trades – plumbing, bricklaying, electrical engineering, hairdressing.
Design Technology including woodworking.
Music and drama.
Cookery.
IT.
Motor vehicle maintenance.

Once the new Unit is built, the current Education accommodation will be utilised to provide additional recreational and personal development activities for young people occupying the home’s residential units in the evenings and weekends.

The scheme is due to start on site in June 2009.
