What We Did
This project involved the renovation of the specialist cancer and treatment medical day unit at Southport Hospital. The refurbishment significantly expanded in size internally as well as having a semi-circular lounge extension added creating a light, airy treatment space for patients, some of whom require up to eight hours of chemotherapy at a time. The scheme also includes new consulting rooms, reception and waiting area for patients. The scheme was partly funded by the Marina Dalglish Foundation, an appeal set up to improve cancer care on Merseyside and West Lancashire Community Hospice Association.
The Interior design brief was to create a bold but harmonious colour scheme for the Medical Day Unit. A theme of nature, and in particular leaves, was adopted from an early stage and was the key driver in determining the colour scheme. Strong splashes of green and yellow in key areas make the space bright, fresh and uplifting, set against a mainly warm and neutral backdrop. The coordinated approach to the selection of loose furniture, artwork, window film and curtain material ensured that both the theme and colour scheme remained consistent throughout. A high level of finish was required to reflect other similar developments around the region.
