The Women and Children’s Unit at Blackpool Victoria Hospital is a new ‘state of the art’ development which boasts care facilities for paediatric and women’s services. The facility which was completed in August 2010 includes SCBU high dependency and transitional care facilities, allowing mother and baby to bond in those crucial early days, whilst being closely monitored by the specialist nursing teams.

The scheme incorporates extensive remodeling and refurbishment of the existing maternity building with a large element of new build, including new out-patient facilities, scan facilities and NICU/SCBU Wards. In addition, the proposed development also includes a dedicated safeguarding unit, creating a place of safety for children, and providing suitable facilities for paediatric examinations in conjunction with specialist Police teams. The new build elevational treatments have been designed to dramatically enhance the existing building fabric with new, vibrant materials screening the existing dated Maternity Unit.
