Chapel & Multi Faith Room
Client: Moseley Hall Hospital
Location: Birmingham
Value: £350,000
Status: Completed 2006
The chapel at Moseley Hall Hospital was constructed as part of the enablement works making way for a new Mental Health Facility at the Hospital. Gilling Dod Architects were commissioned to provide an improved facility, expanding the overall services.
A sustainable design approach was followed throughout the scheme, with particular regard given to local policy and the visual character of the area. The scheme compliments the existing hospital and proposed mental health unit, by ensuring consistency of form and scale throughout the development, utilising existing levels and roof patterns. The scheme employs a simple palette of zinc cladding and render, each expressing the individual elements. The render strengthens the colonnade and defines the journey to the Chapel whilst the Zinc emphasizes the solidity of the chapel, a simple cubic structure as a small folly within the courtyard.
