Our brief was to refurbish an existing building near to Heathrow Airport, and to create a private surgical unit for the purposes of carrying out cosmetic procedures for private healthcare provider, Transform Medical. The unit provides a suite of two operating theatres, one of which is laminar flow together with recovery and ancillary areas. Patient accommodation is via 14 single ensuite bedrooms and a five bedded bay. Support areas include recovery areas, a cafeteria, offices and a small outpatients area.

The design provides a step up from comparable NHS facilities, in that aspects of it’s interior design take inspiration from luxury Hotels and Spas as well as complying with all of the relevant Department of Health requirements. All finishes and materials selected had to be fit for this environment as well as conveying the appropriate aesthetic message. The aim was therefore to create a modern, welcoming and attractive environment in which patients feel that they have entered somewhere special where they are going to experience an enhanced treatment experience.
