Calverton Hill Hospital

Calverton Hill Hospital is based on a rural site near to Calverton in Nottinghamshire, the project required incorporation within a mature landscape, which included mature woodland.
The purpose built facility comprises 64 beds in four wards, plus a range of supporting and therapy facilities, seclusion, gymnasium as well as a local administration centre for the area. The unit which provides specialist treatment services for men and women with mental illness and personality disorder was accepted by the Healthcare Commission in summer 2008.
The unit is single storey, with full height communal areas with roof lighting to increase the sense of space and light. The administration areas were incorporated into an attic storey which offers a large amount of additional floor space without increasing the apparent bulk of the building. Construction was load bearing in ward areas and load bearing with a framed upper storey to the admin block.
