Gilling Dod were approached by one of their longest standing client bodies, the University of Liverpool to carry out major internal alterations to the Cohen Library, a building that was originally designed by Harold A Dod - a predecessor of the practice, back in 1938.

The scheme included an extension to one wing and two rooftop extensions to provide new IT suites, together with the internal alternations to improve circulation and to provide access for disabled persons. The reading rooms and entrance areas were refurbished to provide a new reception and enhance the security.
